Botanical Name

CAMPANULA persicifolia 'Chettle Charm' PP9815

Plant Common Name

Chettle Charm Peachleaf Bellflower, Peachleaf Bellflower

General Description

The pretty peachleaf bellflower 'Chettle Charm' is an introduction from Blooms of Bressingham and has large white bells with blue-tinged edges. It is easy to grow, and the pretty blooms of this tried and true early perennial offer old-fashioned elegance to perennial gardens.

Peachleaf bellflower is a rhizomatous perennial originating from Russia, Asia and Eastern Europe. It forms spreading rosettes of lance-shaped leaves that give rise to tall leafy stems in early summer. The willowy stems of 'Chettle Charm' support large, open, bell-shaped blooms of white with lavender-blue edges. Deadheading will encourage plants to rebloom, but fewer flowers are produced the second time around.

This bellflower prefers sites with full to partial sun and moist, well-drained soil. Later in the season it offers little ornamental value, so it’s best planted with annuals and perennials that are pretty in midsummer and fall. This old-fashioned perennial is ideal for cottage gardens and sunny perennial borders. Its flowers are also good for cutting.
