Family

Campanulaceae

Botanical Name

CAMPANULA punctata f. rubriflora 'Bowl of Cherries' PP13194

Plant Common Name

Bowl of Cherries Bellflower, Red Spotted Bellflower

General Description

‘Bowl of Cherries’ is highly regarded for its rosy-purple, bell-shaped blooms which dangle elegantly from sturdy, branched stems in late spring through early summer. Displayed atop low mounds of green, heart shaped foliage, the charming, slightly hairy flowers are also attractive to bees. This vigorous, clump-forming perennial is a form of spotted bellflower, a species native to extreme northeastern Asia.

Spotted bellflower appreciates full to partial sun and fertile garden loam with average drainage. A pretty addition to perennial borders and cottage gardens, 'Bowl of Cherries' requires division every two to three years to keep its size in check. Its appealing blooms make excellent cut flowers, and are more easily admired when grown atop stone retaining walls.
