CAMPSIS grandiflora 'Morning Calm'
Chinese Trumpet Creeper, Chinese Trumpet Vine, Morning Calm Trumpet Vine
'Morning Calm' is a fantastic deciduous woody vine with very pretty trumpet-shaped flowers in summer. This China native has attractive glossy dark green leaves. The large peach-colored blossoms with a yellow throat form in clusters on stem tips and dangle, attracting hummingbirds for a good portion of the summer.
Chinese trumpet creeper is not too difficult to grow. It will succeed in average garden soils that are freely draining but stay moist, and will adapt and grow even in fairly poor soil and in compacted or small pockets of ground. For maximum flowering, full to partial sun is needed, but this vine will grow in all but the deepest of shade. This vine becomes heavy and needs a strong support. It can collapse to the ground under its own weight if it has nothing to securely climb. Use it on a large and sturdy arbor or trellis or on a building wall with support cabling. In colder winter areas, plant this vine in a warm microclimate in the garden to ensure its return in spring.
