Indian Summer™ Trumpet Vine, Trumpet Creeper, Trumpet Vine
Indian Summer trumpet vine (cultivar 'Kudian') is a strong-growing and abundant-flowering hybrid deciduous climbing vine. It has light and medium green compound leaves and flowers at a younger age than other trumpet vines. At the tip of the stem, a panicle (or branched cluster) of 6-12 tubular or trumpet-shaped yellowish orange flowers open, attracting hummingbirds. The inside of the flowers are orange-red. This selection grows to about half the size of other trumpet vines.
Grow Indian Summer trumpet vine in any average garden soil that is moist and well-drained. Kudian is quite tolerant of poor and drier soils and in restricted root spaces. Full sun ensures the finest flowering displays. Grow it on any sturdy arbor or tall trellis up the side of a small building. Its smaller size makes it better suited for chain-link fences or simple pre-fabricated aluminum and wood arbors and gazebos.
