CANNA 'Orange Blush'

Image of Canna 'Orange Blush'

Family

Cannaceae

Botanical Name

CANNA 'Orange Blush'

Plant Common Name

Canna, Canna Lily, Orange Blush Canna

General Description

The large, salmon and orange flowers of 'Orange Blush' play beautifully against its huge, soft green leaves. It matures to a compact size and bears beautifully formed, almost lily-like, flowers throughout the growing season. The blooms attract insect pollinators and hummingbirds and are self-cleaning, meaning they fall from the plants cleanly once spent. The large, bold leaves of this high performer have a waxy sheen and are attractive in and of themselves.

Cannas are easy-to-grow, tropical to sub-tropical herbaceous plants. Most species originate from tropical America, but almost all cultivated varieties are hybrids. Where hardy, they are grown as perennials and in colder regions they are commonly grown as vigorous tender perennials.

These garden favorites are borne from thick, fleshy rhizomes that transplant and divide easily. In temperate zones, they may be dug and brought into a cool, dry garage or basement to over winter and then planted again in spring after the last frost date.

Most cannas are amazingly adaptable. They prefer full sun and rich moist to wet soil but can be surprisingly drought tolerant if faced with a bout of dry weather. Enjoy them in containers, waterside gardens or in any bed or border in need of large, colorful ornamentals. Though tolerant of wet soils, cannas will not tolerate deep standing water.
