Botanical Name
CANNA 'Red King Humbert'
Plant Common Name
Canna, Canna Lily, Red King Humbert Canna
General Description
The rich red flowers of ‘Red King Humbert’ contrast beautifully with the dark burgundy foliage of this tall Canna.
Cannas are easy-to-grow, tropical to sub-tropical, herbaceous or evergreen plants that may be grown as perennials in tropical regions or tender perennials in temperate regions. They are borne from thick fleshy rhizomes that are easy to transplant and divide. These give rise to large leaves and tall upright stems topped with lily-like flowers.
Canna are amazingly adaptable. Plants prefer full sun and rich moist to wet soil but can be surprisingly drought tolerant if faced with a bout of dry weather. Where not hardy, their rhizomes can be dug and brought into a cool, dry garage or basement to overwinter and planted again in spring after the last frost date.
These bold ornamentals are ideal for large containers, waterside gardens or edging plants for bed and borders. Though tolerant of wet soils, they will not tolerate deep standing water.
