Plant Common Name

Heath Sedge

General Description

Heath sedge is a grass-like perennial that is native to the northeastern United States and Canada. Throughout the growing season it forms dense mounds of blue-green to gray-green arching blades. This shade-loving plant is grown primarily for its foliage and grows best in moist, fertile soil but can tolerate dry soil conditions. Mix this adaptable sedge with other shade-loving perennials or plant it in masses as a groundcover. Though grass-like in appearance, it will not tolerate foot traffic. At its most southerly range, heath sedge may be evergreen.
