CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Amandola'
Amandola Chrysanthemum, Quill Chrysanthemum
The lovely chrysanthemum 'Amandola' freely produces lavender-rose flowers with quill-like petals. It is early flowering and ideal for decorative planting in late-summer or early fall.
In spring, this cushion-forming herbaceous perennial develops stems lined with medium green, fragrant, lobed leaves. Flowers appear in very late summer and last for several weeks. The numerous blooms are somewhat spider-like with narrow petals of irregular length. Their lavender-rose color is steadfast and seems to hold up well in heat.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Cushion mums such as this are usually treated as annuals, though they tend to survive in regions where winters are milder. This selection looks brilliant when planted in masses and is a great companion to ornamental grasses, goldenrods, stonecrops and compact asters. If added to a container, it will evoke an elegant yet subdued look with its cool pastel tones.
