CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( ANASTASIA SERIES)
Anastasia Series chrysanthemums produce large quilled spider flowers on tall upright stems that are ideal for cutting. Cultivars in this series flower in white, yellow, green, pink, or orange. The 4- to 5.5-inch-wide (10 to 14 cm), many-petaled, long-lasting blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens will flower 7 weeks after 3 weeks of "long-night" treatment (13.5 hours or more). These vegetatively propagated mums were bred by Jan Hoek of Gravenzande, Netherlands, and introduced by the Dutch firm Deliflor Chrysanten B.V. They are grown primarily for the cut-flower trade.
Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and for greenhouse and cut-flower displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage. Hundreds of mum varieties are grown today.
Like most mums, those in the Anastasia Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Disbudded plants produce extra-large blooms.
