CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Arezzo'
Arezzo Chrysanthemum, Belgian Hardy Chrysanthemum
The fully double salmon-red flowers of this decorative mum blend beautifully with other fall-blooming plants. Bred in Belgium, ‘Arezzo’ is a heavily-flowering selection that adopts that perfect cushion mum habit.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial develops dense stems lined with medium green fragrant lobed leaves. In mid-fall, ‘Arezzo’ starts to bloom and will continue for several weeks. Its flowers cover the plants so densely it is hard to see the foliage below. The blooms have multiple rows of salmon-red petals with some revealing a dull orange center.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals to include ‘Arezzo’, though it will survive in regions with modestly cold winters.
It looks brilliant when planted in masses and is a great companion to ornamental grasses, goldenrods, stonecrops, and asters.
