CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Atlantico'( ATLANTICO SERIES)
Hardy Chrysanthemum, Single Chrysanthemum
The hardy chrysanthemum ‘Atlantico’ becomes covered with scores of small, golden, greenish-eyed daisies in late summer and early fall. Bred in Belgium, this hybrid cultivar is a heavy-flowering selection that adopts that perfect cushion mum habit.
Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and greenhouse displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage. Hundreds of mum varieties are grown in modern gardens.
Like most mums, 'Atlantico' thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically planted as seasonal annuals, most hardy mums can be used as border perennials in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
This hardy mum looks tremendous when massed among ornamental grasses and dark red or royal purple asters. The warm-toned flowers are ideal for harvest-themed containers complemented with gourds and small pumpkins.
