CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( AUBURN™ SERIES)
Bred for use as seasonal potted plants, chrysanthemums in the Auburn™ Series produce numerous large, daisy-like blossoms on upright, 10- to 18-inch (25 to 40 cm) stems. The 2.5- to 3-inch-wide (6.5 to 7.5 cm), single to semi-double blooms open in late summer and autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown plants can be forced into bloom at other seasons. Cultivars in in the Auburn™ Series were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio, and are available only as vegetatively propagated plants.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, Auburn™ Series cultivars thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
