Yoder Brothers

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Bronze Cavalcade' PP07389

Plant Common Name

Standard Incurve Chrysanthemum

General Description

The fantastic flowers of 'Bronze Cavalcade' look like classic "football mums" of days gone by. Technically called "standard incurves", the fully double puffy flowers are golden bronze with rounded upcurved petals. This Yoder introduction has an upright habit and long strong stems bred for cutting.

In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial has dense, branched stems lined with rich green, fragrant, lobed leaves. It begins flowering in early fall and continues for several weeks afterward. Its large showy flowers appear on upright stems. They are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.

Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals including 'Bronze Cavalcade.' Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary. Mums are often pinched back in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.

The voluptuous flowers of 'Bronze Cavalcade' complement any colorful greenhouse or fall-garden display and add a fresh touch to bouquets.
