Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Brunette Yobarbie'( BRUNETTE BARBIE™, BARBIE™ SERIES) PP21322
The compact, late-blooming garden mum Brunette Barbie™ bears profuse decorative blooms of bronzy orange-red from early- to mid-fall. This Yoder introduction adopts a pleasing cushion habit ideal for beds and planting containers.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial has dense, branched stems lined with rich green, fragrant, lobed leaves. Its showy fully double flowers cover the well-branched, mounded plant. They are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals including Brunette Barbie™. Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary. Mums are often pinched back in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
The subtle but colorful flowers of Brunette Barbie™ will compliment any colorful fall display and add a fresh touch to container plantings or indoor flower displays.
