Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( CHERYL™ SERIES)
The double-flowered garden chrysanthemums in the Cheryl™ Series bear masses of pink, yellow, white, or orange blooms, typically with darker-hued centers. The 1.5- to 2-inch-wide (3.5 to 5 cm) blooms are produced in early fall on upright, bushy plants. Plants grown under artificial conditions can be "forced" into bloom at other seasons. Cultivars in this series were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio.
The showy blooms and pungent, lobed leaves of garden chrysanthemums are staples of the autumn flower garden. These herbaceous perennials originated in eastern Asia, where they have been bred and selected for many centuries. Garden mums are customarily planted in late summer for seasonal display.
Like most garden mums, Cheryl™ Series cultivars thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically planted as seasonal annuals, these garden mums can be used as perennials in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch back plants in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
