CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( DURANGO™ SERIES)
Durango™ Series chrysanthemums produce numerous large, double, yellow or orange blossoms on 10- to 14-inch (25 to 35 cm) plants. The 3.5- to 5.5-inch-wide (9 to 13.5 cm), many-petaled blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens will flower about 7.5 weeks after 3 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). These vegetatively propagated mums are grown and sold as seasonal pot plants.
Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and greenhouse displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage. Hundreds of mum varieties are grown today.
Like most mums, those in the Durango™ Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering. Disbudded plants produce extra-large blooms.
