CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( FELICIA SERIES)
Semi-Double Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums in the Felicia Series bear masses of semi-double, purple or pink, golden-eyed "daisies" on dense, mounded, 10- to 14-inch (25 to 35 cm) plants. These early-flowering cultivars open their 2-inch-wide (5 cm) blooms in late summer. Cultivars in this series were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio.
The showy blooms and pungent, lobed leaves of garden chrysanthemums are staples of the autumn flower garden. These herbaceous perennials originated in eastern Asia, where they have been bred and selected for many centuries. Garden mums are customarily planted in late summer for seasonal display.
Like most garden mums, Felicia Series cultivars thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically planted as seasonal annuals, these garden mums can be used as perennials in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch back plants in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
