CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Icecap'
Pompon Chrysanthemum
The bouquet chrysanthemum 'Icecap' produces sprays of white, pompon-shaped blossoms on tall stems. The 3-inch-wide (7 cm), many-petaled blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens will flower several weeks after 3 weeks of "long-night" conditioning (13.5 hours or more). This vegetatively propagated mum is sold as a cut flower by florists and other vendors.
Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and for greenhouse and cut-flower displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage. Hundreds of mum varieties are grown today.
Like most mums, 'Icecap' thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium.
