Blooms of Bressingham
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( IGLOO SERIES)
Members of the Igloo Series announce the arrival of autumn with beautiful mounds of brightly colored flowers. These cold hardy mums will reliably overwinter and offer pretty double to semi-double flowers in various shades.
In spring, these clump-forming herbaceous perennials put forth dense stems lined with medium green, fragrant, lobed leaves. In late spring to early summer they should be pinched back to ensure a more uniform shape and to increase the density of flower buds for fall.
The Igloo mums begin blooming in early fall and continue through to mid fall. Their fragrant flowers may be white, violet-purple, bright yellow, deep salmon-orange, or bronze. Many mums are tender and treated as annuals, but these will each year in all but the coldest winters.
Mums grow best in full sun and garden loam with good drainage.
Mass them in mixed borders with ornamental grasses, asters and stonecrops. In containers they look handsome when accessorized with a variety of gourds and small pumpkins.
Igloo mums are not well-suited for spring forcing for the florist trade.
