CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Jambo'
Belgian Hardy Mum, Decorative Chrysanthmum, Jambo Chrysanthemum
Small, fully double, lavender-pink flowers cover this hardy perennial in mid-fall. It adopts a perfect cushion mum habit and blends beautifully with other brightly colored bedding plants for fall.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial develops dense stems lined with medium green, fragrant lobed leaves. It begins flowering in mid fall and continues for several weeks afterward. Its flowers are small, uniform and cover the plants so densely it is hard to see the foliage below.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals to include ‘Jambo.’ Still, this cultivar is hardier than most. Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary.
This cool-hued mum blends well with orange and yellow pansies and colorful kales. It is attention-grabbing when planted in masses and welcoming in festive container plantings accented with decorative gourds and small pumpkins.
