CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( LANSING SERIES)
Lansing Series chrysanthemums produce numerous large, double, lavender-pink blossoms on bushy, dome-shaped, 10- to 16- inch (25 to 40 cm) plants. The 4- to 4.5-inch-wide (10 to 11.5 cm), many-petaled blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into flower at other seasons. These vegetatively propagated mums were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio. They are grown and sold as seasonal pot plants.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, those in the Lansing Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Greenhouse specimens flower approximately 8 weeks after 2 to 3 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering. Disbudded plants produce extra-large blooms.
