Hardy and relatively early-blooming, Mia Series chrysanthemums produce numerous small, pink, pompon-shaped blossoms on bushy, dome-shaped, 6- to 12-inch (15 to 30 cm) plants. The 1-inch-wide (2.5 cm), many-petaled blooms appear in late summer and early autumn.
Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and greenhouse displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage. Hundreds of mum varieties are grown in modern gardens.
Like most mums, those in the Mia Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically planted as seasonal annuals, most hardy mums can be used as border perennials in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
