CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Milano Orange'

Image of Chrysanthemum x morifolium 'Milano Orange'

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Milano Orange'

Plant Common Name

Decorative Chrysanthemum, Milano Orange Chrysanthemum

General Description

In the first days of autumn, the chrysanthemum ‘Milano Orange’ produces an abundance of golden orange flowers on mounded branches. Bred in Belgium, this vigorous decorative mum is heavy-flowering and adopts a uniform cushion habit.

In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial puts forth dense stems lined with medium green, fragrant, lobed leaves. In late spring to early summer it should be pinched back to encourage a more uniform shape and to increase the density of flower buds for fall. It begins flowering in early and continues for several weeks afterward. Its many blooms are double, uniform and cover the plants so densely it is difficult to see the foliage below.

Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals to include ‘Milano Orange’, though it is hardier and will survive colder winters than most.

This cultivar looks brilliant when planted in masses with ornamental grasses and dark red or royal purple asters. The warm-toned flowers are perfect for harvest-themed containers for Halloween or Thanksgiving.
