CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( MISTIQUE SERIES)
Single Chrysanthemum
Mistique Series chrysanthemums produce numerous small, yellow-eyed "daisies" on fast-blooming, heat-tolerant, 6- to 12-inch (15 to 30 cm) plants. Flower colors in this series include yellow, white, pink, and purple. The 1.25- to 1.5-inch-wide (3 to 3.75 cm), single to semi-double blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions. Greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into bloom at other seasons, with plants flowering approximately 6 weeks after 2 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). These vegetatively propagated mums are grown and sold as seasonal pot plants.
Encompassing thousands of cultivars, Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and greenhouse displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage.
Like most mums, those in the Mistique Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
