Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Okra'(OKRA™ YELLOW)
Decorative Chrysanthemum, Okra Chrysanthemum
Small, fully double, cheerful yellow blossoms cover Okra™ Yellow for weeks in early- and mid-fall. This Yoder introduction adopts a perfect cushion mum habit and blends beautifully with other brightly colored bedding plants for fall.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial develops dense stems lined with medium-green, fragrant lobed leaves. The fall blossoms are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Although typically planted as seasonal annuals, most hardy mums (including Okra™ Yellow) can be used as border perennials in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary.
This colorful mum blends well with orange and blue pansies and cool kales. It is attention-grabbing when planted in masses and welcoming in festive container plantings accented with decorative winter squash.
