CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Panuco' PP15313
Single Chrysanthemum, Spray Chrysanthemum
The chrysanthemum 'Panuco' produces sprays of rose-red, yellow-eyed "daisies" that are suitable for cutting. The nearly 2-inch-wide (4.5 cm), single to semi-double blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into flower at other seasons. This vegetatively propagated mum was introduced and patented by the Dutch firm Fides Goldstock Breeding B.V. It was developed for the cut-flower trade.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, 'Panuco' thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Greenhouse specimens flower approximately 7 weeks after 2 weeks of short-day treatment (10.5 hours or less).
