CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Peacock Royal' PP15804
Decorative Chrysanthemum, Peacock Royal Chrysanthemum
The Peacock Royal chrysanthemum is a lovely upright and rounded mum that bears crimson red flowers in early fall. Fully double, crimson red blossoms cover ‘Peacock Royal' for weeks in early and mid-fall. This floriferous selection adopts an upright cushion habit and blends beautifully with other brightly colored bedding plants for fall. It was bred by Keith G. Lintott of Bognor Regis, Great Britain and introduced by Cleangro Ltd., Great Britain .
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial develops dense stems lined with medium green, fragrant lobed leaves. It begins flowering in early fall and continues for several weeks afterward. Its fully double flowers are uniform and cover the plants so densely it is hard to see the foliage below. The flowers are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals to include ‘Peacock Royal.’ Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary.
This colorful mum blends well with yellow and blue pansies and asters. It is attention-grabbing when planted in masses and welcoming in festive container plantings accented with decorative winter squash.
