CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Pomona'( POMONA™ SERIES) PP06802
Decorative Chrysanthemum
Developed for use as a seasonal container plant, the chrysanthemum 'Pomona' produces numerous large, double, red-purple blossoms on bushy, rounded, 10- to 18-inch (25 to 45 cm) plants. The 4- to 5.5-inch-wide (10 to 13.5 cm), many-petaled blooms open in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown plants can be forced into bloom at other seasons. Cultivars in the Pomona™ Series were introduced and patented by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio. They are available only as vegetatively propagated plants.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, those in the Pomona™ Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering. Partially disbudded plants produce the largest blooms.
