CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Puma'( PUMA SERIES) PP08052
Developed for the cut flower trade, the chrysanthemum 'Puma' produces sprays of relatively small, "anemone-type" blossoms with white petals and large, greenish-yellow, pincushion-shaped centers. This tall mum forms an upright, 3- to 4-foot-tall (90 to 120 cm) clump. The 1.5- to 2-inch-wide (4 to 5 cm), single to semi-double blooms open in autumn under "natural" conditions. Greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into bloom at other seasons, with plants flowering approximately 8 weeks after 2 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). This vegetatively propagated mum was introduced by the Dutch firm Fides Beheer B.V. It is grown and sold as a seasonal pot plant.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, 'Puma' thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium.
