Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium( REAGAN SERIES)
Reagan Series chrysanthemums produce sprays of medium-sized, long-lasting "daisies" on tall stems that are suitable for cutting. Cultivars in this series flower in shades of pink, purple, red, yellow, orange, and white, with yellow to greenish-yellow eyes. The 2.5- to 3-inch-wide (6.5 to 7.5 cm), single to semi-double blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens will flower 7 weeks after 3 weeks of "long-night" conditioning (13.5 hours or more). These vegetatively propagated mums are sold as cut flowers by florists and other vendors.
Chrysanthemum × morifolium is an old-time favorite for fall gardens and for greenhouse and cut-flower displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has long been cultivated for its showy blooms and fragrant, deeply lobed foliage. Hundreds of mum varieties are grown today.
Like most mums, those in the Reagan Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium.
