CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Red Yoduluth'( RED DULUTH, DULUTH SERIES) PP13927
Spoon Chrysanthemum
The "spoon" chrysanthemum Red Duluth produces masses of yellow-eyed blossoms with tubular pale yellow petals that flare into red, spoon-shaped tips. The bushy, rounded plants are 14 to 20 inches (35 to 50 cm) tall. The 3-inch-wide (7.5 cm) blooms open in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be forced into flower at other seasons. Duluth Series mums were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio, and are available only as vegetatively propagated plants. They were developed for use as seasonal potted plants.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, those in the Duluth Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
