CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Rose Delano'( DELANO SERIES) PP11991
The chrysanthemum 'Rose Delano' produces numerous large double blossoms with pale yellow outer petals and lavender-purple inner petals. The 4.5- inch-wide (11.5 cm) blooms are borne on bushy, dome-shaped, 12- to 16-inch (25 to 35 cm) plants. Plants bloom in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into flower at other seasons. This vegetatively propagated mum was introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio. It is grown and sold as a seasonal container plant.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves. Lansing chrysanthemum has dark green, relatively large leaves.
Like most mums, 'Rose Delano' thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Greenhouse specimens flower approximately 8 weeks after 2 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering. Disbudded plants produce extra-large blooms.
