CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Saga-no-izumi'
One of a distinct class of chrysanthemums marked by their brush- or thistle-like blossoms, 'Saga-no-izumi' bears clusters of bright yellow blooms with narrow, erect petals. This antique variety flowers in mid- or late autumn on 2- to 3-foot (60 to 90 cm) stems lined with lobed, pungently fragrant leaves.
Brush chrysanthemums originated in Japan, where they have been bred and selected for many centuries. They are customarily grown as annuals for cutting or for greenhouse display.
Brush chrysanthemums prefer full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically grown in greenhouses, they can be used as garden perennials in USDA Hardiness Zones 7 to 9.
