CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Empire Spotlight' PP09933
Decorative Chrysanthemum
Also known as "Spotlight", this "decorative" chrysanthemum bears masses of double, 3-inch-wide (7.5 cm), pale silver-pink blooms on dense, mounded, 1-foot (30 cm) plants. The shorter central petals open rose-pink and age to creamy yellow. Plants flower from late summer to early fall. This cultivar was selected by Janet S. Fuess of Empire Mums, New York Mills, New York.
The showy double blooms and pungent, lobed leaves of decorative chrysanthemums are familiar to most gardeners. These herbaceous perennials originated in eastern Asia, where they have been bred and selected for many centuries. Decorative mums such as 'Empire Spotlight' are customarily planted in late summer for seasonal display.
Like most decorative mums, 'Empire Spotlight' thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically used as a seasonal annual, it can be employed as a hardy perennial in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch plants back in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
