CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Sun Spider'
The florists' chrysanthemum 'Sun Spider' is grown for its autumn display of large, narrow-petaled, golden-yellow blooms. The spidery blooms are borne above clumps of deeply lobed, pungently scented leaves. Plants grow to 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm) high and wide, and flower for several weeks in mid-fall. This spider chrysanthemum is often grown in containers for show or for cutting, but it can also be used as a garden plant in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 to 9.
Florists' chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Though technically perennial, most are grown as annuals. Pinch plants back in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
