CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yellow Urano' PP13101
Decorative Chrysanthemum, Yellow Urano Chrysanthemum
Early in the season, 'Yellow Urano’ produces lots of fully double, flat, golden yellow daisies. This floriferous selection adopts a neat upright, cushion habit and blends beautifully with other brightly colored bedding plants for fall. It was bred by Dirk Pieters of Staden, Belgium.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial develops dense stems lined with medium green, fragrant lobed leaves. It begins flowering in late summer and continues for several weeks afterward. Its pretty flowers are uniform and densely cover the mounded plant. They are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums like this are grown as annuals. Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary. Cushion mums are often pinched back by ¼ in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier flowering.
It looks best when planted in groups among ornamental grasses, cool hued asters and white or ivory mums. It is also welcoming in festive fall container plantings or tabletop displays.
