Botanical Name

CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yobaldwin'(BALDWIN) PP17413

Plant Common Name

Quill Chrysanthemum

General Description

This greenhouse chrysanthemum produces numerous "anemone-type" blooms with large, purple-yellow, cushion-like centers and tubular, grayish-white, purple-tipped petals. The 3-inch-wide (7 cm) blooms appear in late summer and early autumn, but plants grown under artificial conditions can be "forced" into flower at other seasons. Bred for use as a seasonal container plant, this cultivar was introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio.

C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.

Like most mums, Baldwin thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
