CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yogainesville'( GAINESVILLE™, GAINESVILLE™ SERIES) PP13033
Decorative Chrysanthemum
The chrysanthemum Gainesville™ produces masses of double white blossoms on bushy, heat-tolerant, 12- to 18-inch (30 to 45 cm) plants. The 4.5-inch-wide (11.5 cm), many-petaled blooms open in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be forced into flower at other seasons. Gainesville™ Series cultivars were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio. These vegetatively propagated mums are grown and sold as seasonal pot plants.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, those in the Gainesville™ Series thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering. Disbudded plants produce the largest blooms.
