CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yolaporte'(LAPORTE™) PP13917
The "spoon chrysanthemum" Laporte™ produces greenish-eyed "daisies" with white, purple-tipped, spoon-shaped petals. The abundant blooms are borne on densely branched, rounded, 12- to 16-inch (30 to 40 cm) plants. The 4-inch-wide (10 cm), single blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into flower at other seasons. This vegetatively propagated mum was introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio. It is grown and sold as a seasonal container plant. An "improved" form is also in cultivation.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, Laporte™ thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
