CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yonancy'(NANCY) PP17867
Nancy Chrysanthemum, Single Chrysanthemum
Simple yellow daisies cover 'Nancy' in early to mid-fall. This Yoder Brothers introduction has more flexible stems than average and adopts a perfect compact, spreading, cushion habit. It was bred by Mark A. Smith of Fort Myers, Florida.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial has dense, branched stems lined with rich green, fragrant, lobed leaves. It begins flowering in fall and continues for several weeks afterward. Its showy flowers are uniform and densely cover the mounded plant. They are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals including 'Nancy.' Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary. Cushion mums are often pinched back in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
The bright flowers of 'Nancy' complement any bright fall display and add a fresh touch to fall container plantings and tabletop displays.
