CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yorivendell'(RIVENDELL) PP18996
Single Chrysanthemum
Rivendell chrysanthemum produces numerous white, greenish-eyed "daisies" on bushy, dome-shaped, 12- to 16- inch (30 to 40 cm) plants. The 3-inch-wide (7.5 cm), single to semi-double blooms appear in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into flower at other seasons. This vegetatively propagated mum was introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio. It is grown and sold as a seasonal container plant.
C. × morifolium originated in eastern Asia, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Its many cultivars are grown for their showy blooms, which are borne above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, Rivendell thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Greenhouse specimens flower approximately 7 weeks after 2 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). Pinch back developing flowering stems to encourage a tidier habit and heavier flowering.
