Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yovicki'(VICKI) PP12239
Decorative Chrysanthemum, Vicki Chrysanthemum
A high performing garden mum, Vicki bears fully double, golden bronze flowers on upright, relatively flexible stems. This Yoder Brothers introduction adopts a perfect compact, spreading, cushion habit and naturally blooms in mid-fall. It was bred by Leon Glicenstein of State College, Pennsylvania.
In spring, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial has dense, branched stems lined with rich green, fragrant, lobed leaves. It begins flowering in fall and continues for several weeks afterward. Its showy flowers are uniform and densely cover the mounded plant. They are visited by butterflies as the insects prepare to migrate, lay eggs or find shelter for winter.
Chrysanthemums prefer full sun and fertile garden loam with good drainage. Though technically perennial, most mums are grown as annuals including Vicki. Plants are more reliably hardy if you wait to cut their spent branches back in mid-spring. Spring is also the best time to divide them, if necessary. Cushion mums are often pinched back in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
The warm and bright flowers of Vicki will complement any colorful fall display and add a fresh touch to harvest container plantings and Halloween tabletop displays.
