Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Yowinnipeg'(WINNIPEG) PP16638
Winnipeg chrysanthemum produces numerous large, double, deep rose-pink flowers with tubular, spoon-tipped petals. Bloom is in autumn under "natural" conditions, but greenhouse-grown specimens can be brought into flower at other seasons, with plants blooming approximately 8 weeks after 2 weeks of "long nights" (13.5 hours or more). This vegetatively propagated chrysanthemum is grown for cutting or for indoor floral displays. It was introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio.
Encompassing thousands of cultivars in a rainbow of floral colors, Chrysanthemum × morifolium is a long-time favorite for fall gardens and greenhouse displays. This herbaceous perennial originated in eastern Asia, where it has been cultivated and bred for many centuries. Modern mums bloom in numerous hues and shapes. The blossoms are held in clusters above clumps of fragrant, deeply lobed leaves.
Like most mums, Winnipeg thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Disbudded plants produce extra-large blooms.
