CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Zesty Barbara'( BARBARA™ SERIES) PP09569
Garden Chrysanthemum
The garden chrysanthemum 'Zesty Barbara' produces masses of double, coral-pink blossoms on densely branched, dome-shaped, 10- to 18-inch (25 to 45 cm) plants. The 1.5-inch-wide (3.5 cm), many-petaled blooms open in late summer and early autumn, midway in the fall "mum" season. Barbara™ Series cultivars were introduced by Yoder Brothers of Barberton, Ohio, and are available only as vegetatively propagated plants.
The showy blooms and pungent, lobed leaves of garden chrysanthemums are staples of the autumn flower garden. These herbaceous perennials originated in eastern Asia, where they have been bred and selected for many centuries. Garden mums are customarily planted in late summer for seasonal display.
Like most garden mums, Barbara™ Series cultivars thrive in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically planted as seasonal annuals, most garden mums can be used as border perennials in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch back plants in late spring or early summer to encourage a tidier habit and heavier fall flowering.
