CITRUS limon 'Lisbon'

Image of Citrus limon 'Lisbon'

Family

Rutaceae

Botanical Name

CITRUS limon 'Lisbon'

Plant Common Name

Lemon, Seedless Lisbon Lemon

General Description

Best known for its fragrant, tart, golden fruit, this small tree with thorny green branches and thick glossy evergreen leaves is probably native to India. Originating in Portugal, the cultivar 'Lisbon' is a vigorous, heavily armed tree with a dense, upright habit. The fragrant white flowers bloom in spring and often repeat later. The waxy, thick-skinned, acid fruits ripen several months after flowering, with the heaviest harvest usually occurring in winter.

This cultivar requires full sun and well drained soil and is relatively tolerant of heat and cold, making it a good selection for locales such as Arizona. Outside of the citrus grove, it may be planted as a specimen tree or as a large container plant.
