CLEMATIS 'Countess of Lovelace'
Clematis, Countess of Lovelace Clematis, Early Large-flowered Clematis
Countess of Lovelace’ is a vining plant that has large, lilac flowers tinged with blue and cream-colored anthers that bloom twice per growing season. The first double blossoms arise from growth on last year's woody stems, and then in late summer single-flower blooming occurs on this season's growth.
Clematis vine prefers a position with at least five to six hours of sun per day and fertile, well-drained soil. Shade the rootzone for moisture conservation and to keep roots cool. In early spring, remove any dead or damaged vines and prune to retain plant height back to an area of strong, healthy buds. ‘Countess of Lovelace’ is somewhat compact and can be used to dress up a short wall, trellis, or arbor, grown in a patio container, or it can be allowed to scramble over shrubs.
