Ranunculaceae
Botanical Name
CLEMATIS 'Eyre's Gift'
Plant Common Name
Clematis, Eyre's Gift Clematis
General Description
Profuse large violet-purple flowers cover 'Eyre's Gift' from summer to fall. This strong, heavy-flowering Jackmanii-type clematis is a large vine that blooms longer than most.
Hybrid clematis is a hardy deciduous woody vine that climbs by twining stems. The vines are lined with green compound leaves, and the colorful flowers appear late in the season followed by fluffy clusters of silvery seeds.
Plant this vine in sites with full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. It grows and flowers best if its roots remain cool under a vegetative layer or thick mulch. As with most clematis, this selection adds a vertical element to the garden and looks best when trained on a fence, trellis or pergola.
This is a Group 3 clematis, which means it bears flowers on the current year’s growth and can be hard pruned.
