CLEMATIS 'Guernsey Cream'

Image of Clematis 'Guernsey Cream'

Jesse Saylor

Family

Ranunculaceae

Botanical Name

CLEMATIS 'Guernsey Cream'

Plant Common Name

Clematis, Early Large-flowered Clematis, Guernsey Cream Clematis

General Description

Large, radial, butter yellow flowers cover ‘Guernsey Cream’ from late spring to summer. The delicate flowers are borne in proliferation and combine well with many other early to mid-season ornamentals. On occasion, the vines will lightly rebloom in fall.

Hybrid clematis is a hardy deciduous woody vine that climbs by twining stems. The vines are lined with green compound leaves, and the colorful flowers appear early in the season followed by fluffy clusters of silvery seeds.

Plant this vine in sites with full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. It grows and flowers best if its roots remain cool under a vegetative layer or thick mulch. As with most clematis, this selection adds a vertical element to the garden and looks best when trained on a fence, trellis or pergola.

This is a Group 2 clematis, which means its flower buds develop on the previous year's growth, so pruning should be done after it blooms.
