Family

Ranunculaceae

Botanical Name

CLEMATIS 'Jackmanii Rubra'

Plant Common Name

Clematis, Early Large-flowered Clematis, Jackman's Red Clematis, Red Jackman Clematis

General Description

Old-fashioned and lovely, red Jackman's clematis is a beautiful deciduous, woody vine that bears many flowers into late summer. Its large purple-red blooms appear along twining stems against medium green compound leaves. The flowers are initially semi-double when they first begin blooming, while the later blooms are almost all single. The flowers are followed by clusters of long, curled, silky fruits,

Colorful and easy to grow, 'Jackmanii Rubra' grows best in sites with full sun and fertile soil with good drainage. As with most clematis, this selection adds a vertical element to the garden and looks best when trained on a fence, trellis or pergola.

This is a Group 3 clematis, which means it bears flowers on the current year’s growth and can be hard pruned.
