Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
Clematis, Integrifolia Clematis, Rooguchi Clematis
The delicate, nodding, violet-purple and lavender blooms of ‘Rooguchi’ are bell-shaped and have ribbed petals/tepals. This vigorous, integrifolia-type clematis blooms heavily late in the season. This cultivar was bred by Kazuhige Ozawa in Japan.
Hybrid clematis is a hardy deciduous woody vine that climbs by twining stems. The vines are lined with green compound leaves that appear in spring. The large flowers appear from summer to fall and are followed by fluffy clusters of silvery seeds.
Clematis grows best in sites with full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. It grows and flowers best if its roots remain cool under a vegetative layer or thick mulch. If left unpruned, plants will sporadically flower again in fall. As with most clematis, this selection adds a vertical element to the garden and looks best when trained on a fence, trellis or pergola.
This is a Group 3 clematis, which means it bears flowers on the current year’s growth and can be hard pruned.
